“The Jordans” is a collection of fiber and painted works that serve as a testament to the bond that can emerge from the most challenging circumstances through the lens of a single father and only daughter.

Traumatic events surrounding addiction and death occurred when I was young, and what came out of it was a strong and loving relationship between my father and I. Having a single-parent family came with its challenges, forcing my dad to take on non-traditional roles and dedicate his life to raising me, becoming my “mom-dad” as I would call him when I was little. This forced him to become extraordinary, as many single parents must do, showing tenderness and emotion while also being my rock. He was my only constant throughout my life, showing nothing but unconditional and unwavering support, strength, resilience, and love.

It is important not to shy away from themes shrouded in stigma, such as addiction and death, but to approach them with understanding and compassion. This is something my father taught me, and I hope these themes of love, strength, and resilience come forth to the viewer and bring them comfort as well. This exhibition aims to foster conversations about the complexities of non-traditional family dynamics brought together by outside forces and the bond that can arise from shared struggles.
